Silvester Mok is a Hong Kong ceramics artist who works mainly with 3D printed ceramics. After graduating from RMIT University in 2021, Mok has participated in HKAS/RMIT Graduates Exhibition and 17th Fresh Trend Art Graduates Joint Exhibition, and was awarded the Fresh Trend Art Award. Later that year, Mok had his first two solo exhibitions “Moire ” and “Coherence” that marked the start of his art career. Compared to pot pinching, machine has dominated the ceramics forming process in 3D printing. Clay was forced to squeeze out from the nozzle at precise coordinates, creating clay objects in a digital way. The precision and accuracy of the machine make a huge contrast with clay, a material that easily deforms under unbalanced weight and water content. And Mok explores the new role of ceramist in this digital process, by employing the characteristic of clay into his creation, and to make use of computer codings to construct his unique forms and surface textures, to explore the possibilities of digital ceramics. His creations analyse the relationships between multiple forms: how objects connect to, rely on, poke through, support one other, such states of the printed forms then got captured by firing, and emphasised the properties of clay material.
